In January, WhatsApp announced its updated privacy policy, which would allow Facebook to access data from WhatsApp users.

Remind you that this new policy was first to be implemented on 8 February, but due to severe criticism, the company had made the deadline on 15 May.

Increase of nearly 1200 percent

According to the report, Signal achieved a total growth of 1,192 percent in the first four months of 2021 compared to the previous year. The app's downloads grew to 64.4 million worldwide. Talking about the telegram, the app grew by 98 percent compared to last year. On the other hand, rival WhatsApp saw a decline of 43 per cent over the previous year and its number of downloads stood at 172.3 million during this period.

The signal was downloaded 50.6 million times in January, compared to 5,001 percent in the previous year. The app was downloaded a total of 9,92,000 times in January 2020. According to the company's statement, after this the company's downloads decreased every month but the app has maintained a year-over-year growth. It was downloaded 2.8 million times per month in 2021 as against 1.3 million in 2020.

Similarly, in the case of telegram, the number of downloads increased to 63.5 million this year as compared to 16.6 million last year, a total growth of 283 percent. Downloads declined 3 percent in April and downloads were 26.2 million compared to 27 million in 2020.

Let me tell you that the number of downloads of Facebook owned WhatsApp was noticed when COVID-19 started spreading its foot in the country. In April 2020, a total of 28 percent decline was observed in WhatsApp installs.
