Government of India clash with Twitter
Let me tell you that there has been a conflict between Twitter and the Indian government for the last several days. Recently, Twitter India's public policy director (India and South Asia) Mahima Kaul has resigned from her post. Though Mahima Kaul has said that she is resigning due to personal reasons, but the recent Twitter confrontation with the government is also being linked to Mahima's resignation. Last week, the government had sought an answer from Twitter for breaking the rules and by the end of the week Mahima resigned.
Following the resignation of Mahima Kaul, the government had ordered closure of 1,178 accounts of alleged supporters of Pakistan and Khalistan. The government had warned Twitter that if it does not comply with the instructions, then there could be a fine or seven years in jail under the relevant sections. On this notice, Twitter has said that it wants to talk with the government. Twitter has also said that safety of employees is its first priority.
