India's most-valued company, Reliance, said in July that Alphabet's Google would invest $ 4.5 billion (about Rs 33,102 crore) in its digital unit. Reliance owner Mukesh Ambani said in July that Google would build an Android operating system (OS) to build a low-cost "4G or 5G" smartphone, which Reliance would design. The new phone is going to be a major challenge for Chinese vendors such as Xiaomi and owners of BBK Electronics, Realme, Oppo, and Vivo brands.
Powered by features such as powerful cameras, Chinese companies sell around eight out of every 10 smartphones in the country. Reliance carried out a similar scheme with the launch of Jio Phone in 2017, a no-frills device that gave users internet access of up to $ 20 (about Rs 1,470). Jio Phone now has more than 100 million users.
Reliance Jio has been in the limelight since its entry into India and the company is growing rapidly. Reliance Jio has made several new and major announcements at its 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM 2020). Mukesh Ambani announced from the platform of AGM 2020 that Reliance Jio is going to bring 5G network in India. This announcement of Jio has shocked not only mobile users but also other telecom companies in the country. Mukesh Ambani also said that the company has completed preparations for 5G and soon the trial of 5G network will be started in India.
